How close are different dye batches?
Each dye recipe is written down and recorded to capture: the dye used to the hundredth of a gram, milliliters of water and acid, and dye placement. However, since these are small batch, hand painted yarns, conditions are not always identical. Therefore, different dye batches are prone to have variations. I try my best to ensure consistent colors across dye batches, but yarn is finicky sometimes and doesn’t want to behave. However, if larger quantities are needed, such as sweater quantities, these are always dyed together. With any hand dyed yarn, it is recommended to alternate skeins within a project to prevent color pooling.

How should I wash my finished objects?
I always suggest washing finished objects in cold water with your choice of wool wash and lying flat to dry. Even though all of my bases are Superwash or Superwash blends, washing machines can be brutal on hand knit items. Additionally, if dark colors (especially purples and reds) are running during washing, add a small amount of white vinegar to the soaking bath, or use a color catcher sheet. Dye bonds to the yarn in acidic conditions and most tap water is on the basic side of the PH scale, causing the dye to run from the yarn. The small addition of white vinegar balances out the PH of the water and prevents the colors from running.
